Considered first growth (Erste Lage) in Kamptal, the Steinmassl vineyard is set on primary rock of mica-schist. These meagre soils produce small concentrated berries. With a slow pressing or period of skin contact, and fermentation in stainless steel, the resulting wines are long and lean with a crystalline finish. Serious, poised and dry, this reminds us again that Riesling is absolute royalty.

Based in Kamptal, 70 kilometres north west of Vienna, these stony vineyard terraces are warmed by the continental Pannonian influence to the south, and cooled by the wooded Waldviertal region to the north.
