Col d'Orcia Brunello di Montalcino 2001
Widely considered to be the greatest, most ageworthy expression of Sangiovese, Brunello di Montalcino is royalty among Italian wines. And we're thrilled to get our hands on this one from the celebrated 2001 vintage. There's serious depth of flavour - cherry, sweet spices, licourice and olive tapenade. The palate is ample, both in its layers of flavour and in its structure. Fine but firm, grainy, savoury tannin frame this wine beautifully.
Col dāOrcia is one of Montalcinoās most historic wineries, with plantings on favourable southern slopes dating back to 1890. Now owned by the Cinzano family of Piemonte, 108 of the estateās 540 hectares are planted with vines, and the whole estate is certified organic.Ā
