Ridolfi Brunello di Montalcino 2019
A stately and fine expression of one of Italyâs great wines, Brunello di Montalcino. Dark berries, florals and sandalwood, the intriguing aromatics of Sangiovese draw you in. The palate has the firmness youâd expect of Brunello, but with elegance and finesse, rather than boldness. Itâs a contemplative kinda wine thatâll do well with aging, and/or decanting to fully reveal itself.
Based on the north eastern slopes of Montalcino in Tuscany, Ridolfi is made up of 19 hectares of vines on a 35 hectare estate. On purchasing the property in 2014, Giuseppe Peretti, who made his dosh in Italyâs leather tanning industry, invested heavily in new winemaking facilities. With production in the hands of Gianni Maccari, it isnât however focused on modern technology, but rather on time-honoured winegrowing practices. The vineyards are managed organically, and the winemaking makes use of the traditional techniques of lengthy macerations and barrel aging.Â
